A Tale of Two Mountains

Handbook 4: Article 37 - Part 4: An Appointed Time, an Appointed Work: Renewing the Kingdom

"You have come to Mount Zion and to the city of God, the heavenly Jerusalem..."

Hebrews 12:22

"Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain, who destroys the whole earth..."

Jeremiah 51:25

"...prophesy to the mountains of Israel and say, 'O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord God, "Because the enemy has spoken against you, 'Aha!' and 'The everlasting heights have become our possession'" therefore, prophesy and say...

'O mountains of Israel, you will put forth your branches and bear your fruit for My people Israel; for they will soon come... And I will multiply... the whole house of Israel... Yes, I will cause... My people Israel... to walk on you and possess you, so that you will become their inheritance and never again bereave them of children.'"

Ezekiel 36:1, 8, 12

The Destroying Mountain

"'Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain,
Who destroys the whole earth,' declares the Lord,
'And I will stretch out My hand against you,
And roll you down from the crags
And I will make you a burnt out mountain.
And they will not take from you even a stone for a corner
Nor a stone for foundations,
But you will be desolate forever.'"

Jeremiah 51:25, 26

The Destroying Mountain Has a Prince

"And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience."

Ephesians 2:1, 2

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."

Ephesians 6:12

"I will not speak much more with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in me."

John 14:30

A Profile of the Prince

"But you said in your heart,
I will ascend to heaven;
I will raise my throne above the stars of God,
I will sit on the mount of assembly
In the recesses of the north.
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High."

Isaiah 14: 13, 14

"'Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain,
Who destroys the whole earth,' declares the Lord,
'And I will stretch out My hand against you...'"

The Judgment of the Prince

"Now judgment is upon this world; and the ruler of this world shall be cast out."

John 12:31

"How you have fallen from heaven,
O shining one of the morning, son of dawn!
You have been cut down to the earth,
You who have weakened the nations!"

Isaiah 14:12

Remember these words of Jesus?

"I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning..."

Luke 10:18

And these scriptures from Part 1 and "The Order of the Feet"?

"...what is man that you take thought of him...
and dost crown him... with 'majesty'..."

Psalm 8

"I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning. Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy..."

Luke 10:19

Another prophecy to consider:

"And a second angel sounded, and something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea..."

Revelation 8:8

"Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes it is going to happen, it will be granted him."

Mark 11:23

Is this a "greater work"?

"Lift up a standard on the windswept mountain,
Raise your voice to them,
Wave the hand that they may enter the doors of the nobles,
I have commanded My consecrated ones,
I have called My mighty warriors,
My proudly exulting ones, to execute My anger.

A sound of tumult on the mountains,
Like that of many people!
A sound of the uproar of kingdoms,
Of nations gathered together!
The Lord of hosts is mustering the army for battle."

Isaiah 13:2-4

"The Lord has opened His armory
And He has brought forth the weapons of His indignation,
For it is the work of the Lord of hosts..."

Jeremiah 50:25

"...I will trample him on My mountains..."

Isaiah 14:25

"They are coming from a far country
From the farthest horizons,
The Lord and His instruments of indignation,
To destroy the whole land."

Isaiah 13:5

"You are My war-club, My weapon of war;
And with you I shatter nations,
And with you I destroy kingdoms."

Jeremiah 51:20

"...To declare in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God, vengeance for His temple."

Jeremiah 50:28

The Mountain of His Inheritance

A Brief History

Moses and the sons of Israel met God on a physical mountain. Solomon, Zerubbabel and Herod constructed His house on a physical mountain. On the last page of Handbook 2 we, who are also the Israel of God, are given our spiritual position; at this moment in time we have also come to a mountain.

"You have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God..."

Hebrews 12:22

A Review
(Handbook 2, Article 42)

This is not a literal mountain.

"You have not come to a mountain that may be touched..."

Hebrews 12:18

But the song for the sons of Israel and for us is the same song. For the destination God prepared for them and for us is the same.

"Who is like Thee among the gods, O Lord?
Who is like Thee, majestic in holiness,
Awesome in praises, working wonders?
In Thy lovingkindness Thou hast led the people whom Thou hast redeemed.
In Thy strength Thou hast guided them to Thy holy habitation.
Thou wilt bring them and plant them in the mountain of Thine inheritance,
The place, O Lord, which Thou hast made for Thy dwelling,
The sanctuary, O Lord, which Thy hands have established.
The Lord will reign forever and ever."

Exodus 15:11-13, 17-18

For "Israel of God" of all generations of His people, His purpose for bringing us out of slavery, was and is to guide (bring) us to the mountain of His inheritance, His dwelling place, His sanctuary.

The Highways to Zion

"How blessed is the man whose strength is in Thee;
In whose heart are the highways to Zion...
They go from strength to strength,
The God of gods will be seen in Zion."

Psalm 84:5-7

"'In those days and at that time,' declares the Lord, 'the sons of Israel will come, both they and the sons of Judah as well; they will go along weeping as they go, and it will be the Lord their God they will seek.

They will ask for the way to Zion, their faces in its direction; they will come that they may join themselves to the Lord in an everlasting covenant that will will not be forgotten.'"

Jeremiah 50: 4, 5

And His purpose also included "a kingdom of priests."

"You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto Myself. Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My special treasure among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation."

Exodus 19:3-6
