To call Jesus, 'Lord,' does not make Him our Lord. Only obedience can accomplish that!
A possible definition:
Obedience: "...to walk in the same manner as He walked."
1 John 2:6
His invitation to "Come" supports this.
"Come to Me... take My yoke upon you and learn of Me..."
Matthew 11:28, 29
Jesus' Manner of Walking:
"Behold I have come
(In the roll of the book it is written of Me)
To do Thy will, O God."
Hebrews 10:7
"...the disciples were requesting Him saying, 'Rabbi, eat.' But He said to them, 'I have food to eat that you do not know about... My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to accomplish His work.'"
John 4:31, 32, 34
"For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me."
John 6:38
A Closer Look
"... Truly, truly I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is some- thing He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He is doing..."
John 5:19, 20
"I can do nothing on My own initiative... I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me."
John 5:30
"Jesus therefore said, 'When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and do nothing on My own initiative, but speak the things as the Father has taught Me and He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do things that are pleasing to Him.'"
John 8:28, 29
